It's been a while since my last post, I was busy doing my theses and I almost forgot this forum until there is a message pop up in my email :). So Hello everyone!!how's your life?

Hello Niwa-chan I'm gratefull that you know Indonesia very well :) and you explain it much well than me =D> my english is not good as yours so sometimes I can't write what i'm thinking so Thank you for your post and explanation about Indonesia, my lovely country :)

we usually use dried bay leaves, but sometime you can find people using the fresh one.

I have Bay leaves tree in front of my house so my mom always use a fresh one and it's taste better than dried one. This is the picture of fresh Bay Leaves or we called it Daun Salam in Bahasa
Image

They do look good ne~ I had a few tumpeng in my life ^^.. when my family or relatives or some kind of gatherings.. I had too many tumpeng in my life haha.. i think.. they always different to one another.. i mean the side dishes.. but the rice is all the same.. they were all nice..

Tumpeng is only for a celebration. When my family celebrate my birthday my mom cook a tumpeng for me with my favourite side dishes fried chicken (ayam goreng) and spicy tempe. There is a little differences between daily rice and the rice in Tumpeng because it is cooked with coconut milk so it taste more delicious than daily rice. ;)

In Poland we have a dessert made with a rice cooked using milk - but I've tried coconut milk for it too, and it's great! If you want to do it, first, half-cook rice using water, and then add the milk, some butter (I'm using one tablespoon), sugar and cook rice in it - when there will be only a little bit of milk left, put a lid on top of the pot, wrap it using a towel and put into quilt. After one hour, I'm adding a little bit of milk, stirring everything together and putting it into a fridge, but some people prefer it warm :) You can also add some chocolate, fruits or other things. It's really good and I like it ;) Of course, it's probably different from Indonesian rice. I'll have to try some Indonesian cuisine, it seems very delicious :)

It seems delicious. I'll try to make it sometimes
Yes, its different but not much, only the taste of our coconut milk rice is more salty and savory than sweet one.

Here the recipe if you want to try it Teru-san, We called it Nasi Uduk:
Nasi Uduk / Savory Rice

Ingredients:
500 gram uncooked rice
600 cc coconut milk
1/2 tbsp salt
2 pieces of bay leaves
2 pieces of pandan leaves, knotted
1 tsp ground coriander

Instructions:
Rinse and steam rice for 25 minutes or half cooked.
Simmered coconut milk together with salt, bay leaves, pandan leaves and coriander.
Shift the rice to a big pan, then pour boiling coconut milk. Stir it with low heat until the coconut milk absorbed.
Shift it back to steamer, steam until steamed well (about 40 minutes)
Ready to serve.

You can serve it with egg, fried chicken, or fried tempe :)

I've tried it several times - it's taste is similar to... coconut ^^' :D It just looks a little bit like a milk. :) But I think, that it's better to use it for cooking, than to drink it alone ;)

No, I don't think so. Both of milk and coconut milk has their unique taste. You know it when you taste it :)

But I think, that it's better to use it for cooking, than to drink it alone

I never drink coconut milk alone :D, but sometime my mom put it on coffee. You can drink coconut water alone. It very refreshing for Jakarta's heat. Add ice in it then you have a very refreshing drink more than Soda :D

You will see that a lot of Indonesian cuisine use coconut milk like rendang or gudeg. I think that because we have abundant supply of coconut. It is easy to find coconut in Indonesia :)

I envy you! You have a lot of nice fruit!

the advantages live in tropical area is you have a lot of nice fruit. But there's a lot of good things also if you live in sub-tropical area like snow and beautiful spring. :good:

Anyway, there are some fruits that I like here in Indonesia:
Salak (Salacca zalacca)/Snake Fruit
Image
There are lots of varies of salak but I love sweet one like Salak Pondoh from Yogyakarta. If you visit Yogyakarta in the future you can take a look to Turi Agro Turism to know Salak trees and taste a good one. here is the Link about Turi Agro Turism : http://www.yogyes.com/en/yogyakarta-tou ... sata-turi/

Durian/Durio zibethinus
Image
Some people don't like smells of Durian but I really like the sweet taste and unique smells of Durian. Indonesia have at least 20 species of durian but here in Indonesia also popular Durian Monthong from Thailand.

Manggoes/Mangifera indica
Image
Some manggoes taste sweet but there also had variety which taste sour. The picture is Mangga Gedong, I have trees of Mangga Gedong in my back yard. So I always wait moment when the trees bear fruit.

Jambu Air/Syzygium samarangense
Image
its juicy, sweeet, sour and very delicious. We can eat is as Rujak (fruit salad).
